Fry’s Food Stores/Kroger Company Artwork


REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS—MURAL ARTIST

West Valley Arts Council, in partnership with Fry’s Food Stores, a division of the Kroger Company, seeks to commission a professional artist or artist team to create an indoor mural for a new Fry’s Food Store #678 located at 16388 W Pat Tillman Blvd, Surprise, AZ 85387.

The mural will be prominently displayed on a wall inside the store as part of the Kroger Company’s commitment to involving artists in beautifying new stores in Arizona and throughout the nation. The artwork will be expected to celebrate the spirit of the community and the unique identity of the Surprise area and its surroundings.  The mural will be approximately 24 feet wide by 8 feet high and must be painted on durable panels that can be attached to the wall.


ELIGIBILITY - This opportunity is open to professional artists or artists teams, living in the Phoenix Metro area, who have the ability to create exemplary large-scale mural work.


TO APPLY - Interested artists must submit the following documents and supporting materials VIA SUBMITTABLE (NO E-MAILED, MAILED OR HARDCOPY SUBMISSIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED).

  1. A current resume and bio,  in PDF or MS Word format.
  2. Six (6) images documenting previously completed works that demonstrate the ability to design, create, and install large-scale art. Each image must be no larger than 10 MB.
  3. An annotated information sheet with the title, date, and brief description of each image.


SEMI-FINALIST HONORARIA - Up to three artists from the applicant pool will be selected to prepare a design/drawing of the proposed artwork. Each will be paid $300 for their proposals.


PROJECT BUDGET - One artist will be awarded a commission of $10,000. This amount includes all artist fees, including mural design, fabrication, materials installation, insurance transportation and project coordination, costs to deliver said artwork to the new Fry’s Food Store located at 16388 W Pat Tillman Blvd, Surprise, AZ 85387by Wednesday, August 31, 2022.

The general on-site contractor of the new Fry’s Foods Store, with the guidance of the artist, will perform the installation of said artwork.

Now accepting applications from artisan vendors for the West Valley Arts Council's IMPRINT Festival! All artisans and makers who create beautiful and functional works are welcome to apply. Product submissions are open and not limited to small visual works, sculpture, prints, décor, greeting cards, jewelry and accessories, kitchenware, specialty candles and soap. We encourage artisans from diverse backgrounds who create unique products. 

The IMPRINT Festival, taking place Saturday, March 12, 2022 from 11am - 5pm, will highlight the richness, beauty, and uniqueness of the diverse cultures existing in the valley. The festival will include an open gallery, live performances in music and dance, food trucks, children's activities, and live painting!

IMPRINT: Celebrating Cultural Diversity in Arts, created and launched in 2020 by West Valley Arts Council, is specifically designed to recognize artists of color in and around the valley.  We believe artists of color have made significant and positive contributions to our communities through the arts. DETAILS
Seeking artisans and makers who create wares, products, crafts, artworks, and merchandise for vendor booth space at WVAC’s IMPRINT Festival. We welcome all vendors (18+) living and working in Arizona.
All booth sizes are 10ft x10ft, outdoors. Double booth spaces are 20ft x 10ft.


Prices:

Standard (open air)

  • WVAC Artist Member $50
  • Non-Member $75

Shaded Patio 

  • WVAC Artist Member $70
  • Non-Member $95

Double Booth (non shaded areas only)

  • WVAC Artist Member $90
  • Non-Member $140


Specific vendor booth locations will be determined by the availability and number of accepted applications. Vendors in standard (non shaded areas) are responsible for providing their own shade. All vendors are responsible for providing their own tables, chairs, etc. Spaces do not have access to power/electricity.

Vendors will be contacted via email and will receive further information at that time including vendor booth location, fee payment, vendor/artist agreement, set up and tear down dates and times.
Every submission is appreciated.


REQUIREMENTS
Artworks and products submitted must be the original work of the vendor/artist. No third party sellers/vendors/distributors will be considered.
Must submit the following:

  • Name and/or business name
  • Phone, email, and at least 1 social media handle or website
  • product images
  • brief description of work and price
  • Bio/statement
  • Vendors are encouraged to submit 3-5 individual works/products for consideration.

Please ensure high quality of images, we recommend:
Photos: between 72 and 300 dpi
Video: should be 1080p or less. File sizes up to 5 GB


Vendors are required by the City of Surprise to have a City of Surprise business license OR a Special Event Vendor License, which can be obtained via the link below:

West Valley Arts Council continually seeks to expand its network of performing, teaching, and visual artists for the purpose of arts education, professional development, facilitation, and arts programming.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. We actively encourage applications from BIPOC artists.


Examples of Eligible Categories:

  • Dance: modern, traditional, cultural, ballet, jazz, etc.
  • Music: classical, opera, cultural, jazz, vocal, world music, etc.
  • Theater: musical, play, puppetry, mime, drama, etc.
  • Visual art: traditional cultural art forms, textile arts, conceptional art, etc.
  • Other: traditional folk performance, non-verbal performance, other original works, etc.


Eligibility:

  • Be a performing artist, ensemble or group with some paid professional experience presenting or providing workshops
  • Be able to present 1-hour programs, classes, or workshops appropriate for audiences of various age groups
  • Video capabilities or ability to travel to Surprise, AZ for recording

Selection Criteria:

  • Artistic merit
  • Professionalism
  • Artist or group resume or biography
  • Examples of work
  • Diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility will be prioritized in the the selection process


Project/Performance Expectations:

  • Create and facilitate project/performance that is informative, participatory, and tangible
  • Provide a minimum 45-minute presentation/workshop/class
  • Lead and facilitate audience Q & A
  • Perform live, virtually, or recording 


Artist Compensation:

  • WVA will provide a paid stipend for the project/performance
  • Artist/group/ensemble will be featured on our website and social media


Evaluation of Application:

Applications will be evaluated by a panel of performing arts professionals and experts based on criteria from the West Valley Arts Council, including consideration of the contents of each application and any supporting materials submitted. Artist must submit proposed project/performance description along with uploading images/video and any other supporting material directly to this submission from.
