IMPRINT: Viva la Cultura Art Exhibit Art Call 2025

OVERVIEW

The West Valley Arts Council and the City of Surprise are seeking Arizona Latin-American artists to submit 2D and 3D artwork for consideration for the IMPRINT: Viva La Cultura exhibit at the Arts HQ Gallery and Surprise City Hall Gallery in Surprise, AZ. The exhibit will house works at both locations and provide a comprehensive scope of representation and recognition to one of Arizona's most prominent cultures.  The exhibit will run September 19 - October 30 at the Arts HQ Gallery and simultaneously at the Surprise City Hall Gallery September 12 - November 7, 2025.  The extended exhibit will kick off with an Opening Reception on Friday, September 19, 5-7pm with music, live painting, and food trucks.

Viva La Cutura! is a part of WVAC's IMPRINT: Celebrating Cultural Diversity in the Arts program.  It is specifically designed to recognize artists of color in and around the valley.  We believe artists of color have made significant and positive contributions to our communities through the arts. WVAC seeks to highlight those impressions through a series of exhibitions.


ELIGIBILITY

This opportunity is open to professional and emerging artists 18 and older living in Arizona.

CRITERIA:

  • Each entry must be the artist’s original work. AI-generated artwork is not permitted.
  • The theme is open and not limited to cultural representation and should be appropriate for families and children to view.
  • All 2D artwork must be properly framed and/or wired, not to exceed 20 lbs. Saw tooth is acceptable. 3D artwork will be placed on pedestals, hung, or can be free-standing.
  • Artwork must stay in place throughout the exhibit.
  • Selected 2D work must include a label or identification on the back of the work, including the name of the artist and title, and contact information.

*WVA board and staff reserves the right to refuse any work based on its inability to meet the criteria, inability to be displayed safely and without difficulty, or inappropriateness in themes or content.


SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Up to 3 entries per submission.
  2. Entries must include an image of each piece (images must be at least 300 dpi and .jpg or .png format.), along with the title, size, medium, and price for each. Pricing should include a 25% commission.  Proceeds benefit the programs of the West Valley Arts Council.
  3. Biography of the artist
  4. Description / story behind the work.
  5. Website and Instagram handles if applicable.
  6. All entries must be completed and received by midnight on the deadline date, and go through this website link.
  7. The West Valley Arts Council is a nonprofit organization.  The artwork submission fee of $15 helps cover the cost of curation, labor, and material expenses, is nonrefundable, and does not guarantee acceptance into the exhibit.


SELECTION

Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of knowledgeable West Valley Arts Council staff members and key partners.


The IMPRINT: Viva la Cultura exhibit will open with a reception on Friday, September 19, from 5-7pm. The reception is free and open to the public flowing from the Arts HQ Gallery to the Surprise City Hall Gallery next door and the garden space between them. Artists are encouraged to attend and invite family and friends. Share your art and story with fellow artists, visitors, and patrons.

The exhibit at the Arts HQ Gallery will run September 19 - October 30, 2025 and at the City Hall Gallery September 12 - November 7, 2025.  Curation of the exhibits will be orchestrated through the Director of the Arts HQ Gallery and will determine at which gallery the accepted artwork will be displayed.  The artwork will be heavily viewed and celebrated at both locations.  Artists are responsible for delivery and pick up of their artwork to the Arts HQ Gallery. Artwork displayed at the Arts HQ Gallery will have a pick up of Friday, October 31 or Saturday, November 1, 10am-2pm.  Artwork displayed at the Surprise City Hall Gallery will be picked up Friday, November 7 or Saturday, November 8, 10am-2pm at the Arts HQ Gallery.

Promotion for the exhibit will be featured on the West Valley Arts Council website, newsletters, and social media via Facebook and Instagram as well as through The City of Surprise social media and internal media. Artists are also encouraged to promote the exhibit in tandem on their own social media platforms and any local media contacts.

OVERVIEW

The West Valley Arts Council and Ottawa University are seeking artwork from Arizona artists for an upcoming Spirit of Surprise Expressive Art Gala at Ottawa University Arizona.  The art exhibit is designed to highlight the positive impact of art and creativity on mental health. The event will include a three-week long public exhibit at Ottawa University in Surprise, Arizona, a lecture, and catered opening reception.  The mental health art exhibit seeks artists creating original 2D and 3D artwork representing art therapy techniques or the intuitive artwork supporting mental health.  Due to the public access of the artwork, thematic discretion is advised.  Artwork is limited to up to 20lbs, not requiring maintenance, and non-perishable.

The exhibit will run September 10 - September 30, 2025.

OVERVIEW

The Arts HQ Gallery is seeking artwork from Arizona artists for their upcoming Wanderlust exhibit. Appropriately timed for the end of summer, the exhibit will feature original 2D, photography, and 3D artwork depicting travel and exploration.  The idea behind the exhibit is to give artists a chance to display artwork inspired by real or fictional places, customers who can't travel can live vicariously through the artwork, or the artwork will remind them of a favorite place they've visited.  The exhibit will run August 8 - September 11, 2025.

The Arts HQ Gallery is located at 16126 N.
